Winter 2004

Welcome to CHKC on the web

The Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC), the only training centre of its kind in Canada, provides free training in skills of daily living and technology to individuals who are Deaf-Blind. These programs help individuals who are Deaf-Blind to increase and maintain their independence and autonomy, access services in the community and decrease isolation.

Second Annual JuneFest to celebrate Deafblind Awareness Month

And now for a major event announcement ... CHKC is happy to announce the return of JuneFest.

JuneFest 2004, a family festival to celebrate Deaf-Blind Awareness Month, takes place on Thursday, June 10th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mel Lastman Square - 5100 Yonge Street, just north of Sheppard Ave., in North York.

The event promises to be a great festival for all ages featuring a charity barbeque hosted by M&M Meat Shops, performances by the Wonderful World of Circus, live music, magicians, games, interactive activities and much, much more! Raffle tickets will be available for fantastic prizes, with an early bird draw for passes to the Molson Indy at 6:00 pm at the site. Visit Fundraising & Public Awareness Events for more information and a list of prizes and sponsors.

JuneFest 2004 brings together the local community, consumers, friends, volunteers, and affiliated organizations to celebrate the summer and raise awareness about the needs of individuals who are Deaf-Blind. Last year this festival was big - this year, it promises to be even bigger.

June is Deaf-Blind Awareness Month in the province of Ontario. JuneFest 2004 is a great opportunity to become aware of this unique disability and also for North York to show their pride in having 2 exclusive organizations who support persons who are Deaf-Blind in their community.

This year JuneFest will be hosted by Rotary Cheshire Homes Inc., with the proceeds of the event going to support the Canadian Helen Keller Centre. Please contact rcheshire@rogers.com for more info

  • Are you interested in volunteering to help maintain our participants' flowerbed?
  • Do you need to relax and get more fresh air?
