Canadian Helen Keller Centre
|
| Report
from CHKC's Executive Director |

As
the new Executive Director of the Canadian Helen Keller Centre,
I am very pleased to announce that CHKC has opened its doors to
the Deaf-Blind community. The Train-the-Trainer program began
in July with three part-time students and a fourth who joined
us in September.
As a former freelance Intervenor and Employee of Rotary
Cheshire Homes, I am very proud to be a part of this new exciting
venture. My experiences also include administration, teaching,
and advocacy. I hope these experiences will enable us all to learn
together and work in unity to help CHKC provide training opportunities
for the Deaf-Blind community and increase awareness of this disability.
Since
the centre began operations we have been able to raise an
additional $5,900 from several very generous sources including
Honeywell's Missisauga site, The Canadian Foundation for Physically
Disabled Persons, and private donations. This kind of support
from the community, the Board of Directors and many others will
help make CHKC a great place for Deaf-Blind people to learn.
If you would like to become a participant of the program,
or you are looking for employment, volunteer or student placement
opportunities, please contact me at (416) 225-8989 or send me
an e-mail.
With Kind Regards,

Sharon Downie-Clarke
Executive Director of the Canadian Helen Keller Centre
